NJMCDirect, the New Jersey Judiciary's online portal for traffic and parking tickets and municipal court complaints, lets you pay, plead and resolve a ticket or complaint online.
This guide shows how to reach it, what it handles and how to tell it from lookalike pages. Every action on this guide links to the official portal.
Paying the fine on NJMCDirect is a guilty plea, and NJMCDirect also lets you enter a not guilty plea.
This guide is not NJMCDirect and is not affiliated with the New Jersey Judiciary. To pay or plead, use the official NJMCDirect portal linked here.
Pay or plead only at the official NJ Courts portal: NJMCDirect · Municipal Court Case Search · NJ Courts Self-Help.
Which official step resolves your ticket?
Two questions, answered from the ticket in your hand. Nothing you choose is stored or sent anywhere; every result links to the official page that handles it.
Box not checked: NJMCDirect can take the payment
NJMCDirect accepts payment for a ticket whose Court Appearance Required box is not checked when the charge is on a Violations Bureau Schedule (NJ Courts FAQ, read October 12, 2026); paying is a guilty plea (NJ Courts Self-Help, same date). Your options are:
- pay your ticket online
- enter a not guilty plea
- request a plea offer, for certain charges
- ask for a different court date
- pay time payments, when the court has approved them
Official portal: NJMCDirect portalnjmcdirect-cloud.njcourts.gov
Box checked: a court appearance is required
A checked Court Appearance Required box means the ticket requires a court appearance and is not resolved by paying online (NJ Courts FAQ, read October 12, 2026). Your options are:
- what Court Appearance Required means
- ask for a different court date, if you cannot attend the one printed
- plea and court date guides
Box unreadable: read the ticket before the portal
Whether the Court Appearance Required box is checked decides whether NJMCDirect can take the payment (NJ Courts FAQ, read October 12, 2026). Your options are:
- what Court Appearance Required means
- ticket lookup and reading guides
- Statewide Call Center and court phone numbers, to ask the court that issued it
Other Municipal Court Complaint: the portal's second search type
NJMCDirect's search page offers two search types, and Other Municipal Court Complaint is the second (NJMCDirect portal, read October 12, 2026). Your options are:
- NJMCDirect portalnjmcdirect-cloud.njcourts.gov, choosing Other Municipal Court Complaint
- look up a ticket in Municipal Court Case Search, to find the complaint number
A payment demand by text or email: check before you tap
The New Jersey Judiciary's own scam notice, quoted under Is this the official NJMCDirect site?, covers texts and emails that demand payment, and its March 31, 2026 alert describes the fake toll-violation texts in circulation. Your options are:
- Compare the address you were sent to with the official one, portalnjmcdirect-cloud.njcourts.gov, before entering anything
- portal check and scam guides
- Federal Trade Commission, reportfraud.ftc.gov, to report the message
No ticket number: find it before the portal
NJMCDirect's search needs the Court ID, prefix and ticket number printed on the ticket (NJMCDirect portal, read October 12, 2026). Your options are:
- find a ticket without the ticket number
- look up a ticket in Municipal Court Case Search, by name or driver's license number
- ticket not found on NJMCDirect, when the portal returns nothing
Official search: Municipal Court Case Search portal.njcourts.gov
Each option is described on the New Jersey Judiciary's page linked here: NJ Courts Self-Help. The municipal court or a lawyer can advise you on your own case.
What is NJMCDirect?
NJMCDirect is an online portal of the New Jersey Judiciary for traffic and parking tickets and municipal court complaints.
The portal describes itself as a way to pay, plea and resolve a traffic or parking ticket or another municipal court complaint online. Its footer credits the New Jersey Judiciary, which runs it.
The New Jersey Judiciary's Self-Help page lists NJMCDirect's two parts, the Traffic Ticket System and the Municipal Complaint System (NJ Courts Self-Help, Municipal court, read October 12, 2026).
Is this the official NJMCDirect site?
The official NJMCDirect runs on the New Jersey Judiciary's own address, portalnjmcdirect-cloud.njcourts.gov, and its footer credits the Judiciary.
Before you enter any ticket detail, check two things: the address ends in njcourts.gov, and the page footer credits the New Jersey Judiciary.
The New Jersey Judiciary never initiates unsolicited texts or emails threatening enforcement actions or demanding payment (NJ Courts: Don't be fooled by scams).
A page that uses the NJMCDirect name on an address outside njcourts.gov, including a social-media or profile page, is not the Judiciary's portal.
| Check | Official NJMCDirect | Lookalike page |
|---|---|---|
| Address and footer | An njcourts.gov address; the footer credits the New Jersey Judiciary. | Another address. |
| How you got there | The Judiciary's municipal court page, under online tools. | A search result, social, profile or link-in-bio page. |
| Phone number shown | Statewide Call Center, 609-421-6100. | A "customer service" number on a non-njcourts.gov page. |
On March 31, 2026 the Judiciary published an alert on fake toll-violation texts that claim to come from a municipal court, threaten a default judgment, fines and costs and MVC notification, and ask the reader to scan a QR code (NJ Courts phishing scam alert).
Report a scam text or email to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov, as that alert advises.
When you do not know which court has the ticket, the Judiciary gives the Statewide Call Center number, 609-421-6100, which the guide to Statewide Call Center and court phone numbers covers.
Tickets and complaints you can resolve on NJMCDirect
NJMCDirect handles two kinds of municipal court matters: traffic or parking tickets, and other municipal court complaints.
The portal's search page asks you to pick one of the two before you search.
- Traffic or parking ticket, the portal's first search type: the court that issued it is what you enter in Court ID / Name, for example Jersey City or Newark.
- Other municipal court complaint, the portal's second search type.
Is an NJ DMV or MVC ticket handled on NJMCDirect?
Yes, a ticket people call an NJ DMV or MVC ticket is a traffic or parking ticket that NJMCDirect handles, and the online-services page of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJ MVC) lists ticket payment as a service provided by NJ Courts.
Points and insurance surcharges that can follow a ticket are NJ MVC matters: see license points and MVC insurance surcharges.
For the payment itself, see paying an MVC or DMV ticket.
How to open NJMCDirect and find your ticket
You open NJMCDirect from the New Jersey Judiciary's municipal court page, under online tools, or at its njcourts.gov address.
The search page asks what you have: a traffic or parking ticket, or another municipal court complaint. You then reach your ticket by entering the Court ID, prefix and ticket number printed on it. The search page lists no login, registration or account step; those fields are all it asks for (NJMCDirect portal, read October 12, 2026).
Finding your ticket on NJMCDirect requires four steps, which end with your ticket on screen.
- OpenOpen NJMCDirect and check that the address bar shows portalnjmcdirect-cloud.njcourts.gov.

- EnterEnter the Court ID or court name, the prefix and the ticket number, which the portal marks required (*).
