NJMCDirect: how to resolve a New Jersey traffic or parking ticket
NJMCDirect, the New Jersey Judiciary's online portal for traffic and parking tickets and municipal court complaints, lets you pay, plead and resolve a ticket or complaint online.
Pay or plead only at the official NJ Courts portal: NJMCDirect · Municipal Court Case Search · NJ Courts Self-Help.
- NJMCDirect Pay the ticket (a guilty plea) or plead not guilty. Needs the Court ID, ticket number and license plate or driver's license number. portalnjmcdirect-cloud.njcourts.gov

- NJ Courts Self-Help The Judiciary's own instructions www.njcourts.gov/self-help
Which official step resolves your ticket?
Answer from the ticket in your hand; nothing you choose is stored or sent. Each result links to the official step.
Box not checked: NJMCDirect can take the payment
NJMCDirect accepts payment for a ticket whose Court Appearance Required box is not checked when the charge is on a Violations Bureau Schedule (NJ Courts FAQ, read October 12, 2026); paying is a guilty plea (NJ Courts Self-Help, same date). Your options are:
- pay your ticket online
- enter a not guilty plea
- request a plea offer, for certain charges
- ask for a different court date
- pay time payments, when the court has approved them
Official portal: NJMCDirect portalnjmcdirect-cloud.njcourts.gov
Box checked: a court appearance is required
A checked Court Appearance Required box means the ticket requires a court appearance and is not resolved by paying online (NJ Courts FAQ, read October 12, 2026). Your options are:
- what Court Appearance Required means
- ask for a different court date, if you cannot attend the one printed
- plea and court date guides
Cannot tell: find the box on the ticket first
Whether the Court Appearance Required box is checked decides whether NJMCDirect can take the payment (NJ Courts FAQ, read October 12, 2026). Your options are:
- what Court Appearance Required means
- ticket lookup and reading guides
- Statewide Call Center and court phone numbers, to ask the court that issued it
Other Municipal Court Complaint: the portal's second search type
NJMCDirect's search page offers two search types, and Other Municipal Court Complaint is the second; it asks for the Court ID or court name, prefix, year and number, plus a last name or business name or the defendant's ZIP code (NJMCDirect portal, read October 20, 2026). Your options are:
- NJMCDirect portalnjmcdirect-cloud.njcourts.gov, choosing Other Municipal Court Complaint
- look up a ticket in Municipal Court Case Search, to find the complaint number
A payment demand by text or email: check before you tap
The New Jersey Judiciary's own scam notice, quoted under Is this the official NJMCDirect site?, covers texts and emails that demand payment, and its March 31, 2026 alert describes the fake toll-violation texts in circulation. Your options are:
- Compare the address you were sent to with the official one, portalnjmcdirect-cloud.njcourts.gov, before entering anything
- portal check and scam guides
- Federal Trade Commission, reportfraud.ftc.gov, to report the message
No ticket number: find it before the portal
NJMCDirect needs the Court ID (or court name), the ticket number and the license plate or driver's license number together, with the prefix only if the ticket shows one, so a plate or a name alone does not find a ticket (NJMCDirect portal search page, read October 19, 2026). Your options are:
- find a ticket without the ticket number
- look up a ticket in Municipal Court Case Search, by name or driver's license number
- ticket not found on NJMCDirect, when the portal returns nothing
Official search: Municipal Court Case Search portal.njcourts.gov
A missed date: the missed-deadline guides take it from here
What follows a missed payment date or a missed court date has its own guide, one per situation: a missed payment, a missed court date, a warrant check, a suspension. Your options are:
- what happens after a missed payment
- missed deadline guides, for a missed court date, a warrant check or a suspension
After a payment or a decision: what the NJ MVC may add
Points and insurance surcharges are NJ MVC matters, not NJMCDirect's, and this guide covers them only as the step after a court outcome (see Is an NJ DMV or MVC ticket handled on NJMCDirect?). Your options are:
Each option is described on the New Jersey Judiciary's page linked here: NJ Courts Self-Help. The municipal court or a lawyer can advise you on your own case.
What is NJMCDirect?
NJMCDirect is an online portal of the New Jersey Judiciary for traffic and parking tickets and municipal court complaints.
The portal describes itself as a way to pay, plea and resolve a traffic or parking ticket or another municipal court complaint online. Its footer credits the New Jersey Judiciary, which runs it.
The New Jersey Judiciary's Self-Help page lists NJMCDirect's two parts, the Traffic Ticket System and the Municipal Complaint System (NJ Courts Self-Help, Municipal court, read October 12, 2026). The Judiciary also writes the name NJMC Direct, and the portal's own title is NJMCDirect.com.

- Language
- The Judiciary's Municipal Court Self-Help page offers Español; the NJMCDirect search page showed no language option when read (October 20, 2026).
Is this the official NJMCDirect site?
The official NJMCDirect runs on the New Jersey Judiciary's own address, portalnjmcdirect-cloud.njcourts.gov, and its footer credits the Judiciary. The Judiciary's short address, www.njmcdirect.com, forwards to that njcourts.gov address (read October 20, 2026).
The New Jersey Judiciary never initiates unsolicited texts or emails threatening enforcement actions or demanding payment (NJ Courts: Don't be fooled by scams).
A page that uses the NJMCDirect name on an address outside njcourts.gov, including a social-media or profile page, is not the Judiciary's portal.

On March 31, 2026 the Judiciary published an alert on fake toll-violation texts that claim to come from a municipal court, threaten a default judgment, fines and costs and MVC notification, and ask the reader to scan a QR code (NJ Courts phishing scam alert).
Report a scam text or email to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov, as that alert advises.
When you do not know which court has the ticket, the Judiciary gives the Statewide Call Center number, 609-421-6100, which the guide to Statewide Call Center and court phone numbers covers.
Tickets and complaints you can resolve on NJMCDirect
NJMCDirect handles two kinds of municipal court matters: traffic or parking tickets, and other municipal court complaints.
The portal's search page asks you to pick one of the two before you search; an NJ parking ticket and an NJ traffic ticket both go in the first.
- Traffic or parking ticket, the portal's first search type: the court that issued it is what you enter in Court ID / Name, for example Jersey City or Newark.
- Other municipal court complaint, the portal's second search type: searched by court, prefix, year and number.
Is an NJ DMV or MVC ticket handled on NJMCDirect?
Yes, a ticket people call an NJ DMV or MVC ticket is a traffic or parking ticket that NJMCDirect handles, and the online-services page of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJ MVC) lists ticket payment as a service provided by NJ Courts.
Points and insurance surcharges that can follow a ticket are NJ MVC matters: see license points and MVC insurance surcharges.
For the payment itself, see paying an MVC or DMV ticket.
How to open NJMCDirect and find your ticket
You open NJMCDirect from the New Jersey Judiciary's municipal court page, under online tools, or at its njcourts.gov address.
The search page asks what you have: a traffic or parking ticket, or another municipal court complaint. You then reach your ticket by entering the Court ID, prefix and ticket number printed on it; those fields are all it asks for (NJMCDirect portal, read October 12, 2026).
NJMCDirect has no login: the search page lists no login, registration or account step (NJMCDirect portal, read October 20, 2026). The Portal Log In on njcourts.gov opens NJCourts Online, the Judiciary's separate user ID and password login for registered users such as attorneys and jurors, and is not part of searching, paying or pleading on NJMCDirect (NJCourts Online: Login, read October 20, 2026).
Finding your ticket on NJMCDirect requires four steps, which end with your ticket on screen.
- OpenOpen NJMCDirect and check that the address bar shows portalnjmcdirect-cloud.njcourts.gov.
- ChooseChoose Traffic/Parking ticket or Other Municipal Court Complaint, as the portal labels them.
- EnterEnter the Court ID or court name and the ticket number, both marked required (*), plus the prefix if the ticket shows one.
- AddAdd the Additional search criteria, the other field the portal marks required (*): the License Plate for a Traffic/Parking ticket, or the Driver License for a Traffic ticket.

What you can do with a ticket on NJMCDirect
On NJMCDirect you can pay a payable ticket, enter a not guilty plea, request a plea agreement for certain charges, ask for a different court date and pay time payments.
A ticket can be paid without going to court only if its Court Appearance Required box is not checked and the charge is on a Violations Bureau Schedule, as the guide to what Court Appearance Required means explains.
Paying the fine is a guilty plea. For the payment itself and what follows it, see the ticket payment guides.
- Pay a payable ticket by credit card when no court appearance is required: pay your ticket online.
- To have the charge heard in court: enter a not guilty plea on NJMCDirect.
- Request a plea agreement from the municipal prosecutor, for certain charges: request a plea offer.
- If you cannot attend the date printed on the ticket: ask for a different court date.
- When the court has approved a time payment: pay time payments.
The payable amounts for common violations are in the Statewide Violations Bureau Schedule: see fine amounts.
If a payment date has passed, see what happens after a missed payment.
